My wife, Sara, and I moved here when she began her job for Cummins in June of 2012 and I began working for Shelbyville as a temporary English teacher in August. After finishing the year with Shelbyville, I decided to look for another job and, luckily, ended up here. In our free time, my wife and I enjoy traveling, watching movies and sports. I am really pleased to have landed here at Southwestern and can't imagine a better group of teachers and students to work with! Language Arts
Hello, my name is Mrs. Stephanie Parmer. I teach Secondary Language Arts which includes: 7, 7 Honors, Senior, and AP/Dual Credit Senior. I currently live in Edinburgh, but I grew up on a dairy farm in Shelbyville, Indiana, graduated from Southwestern High School, and I always wanted to be a teacher. I earned a Bachelor's degree in Secondary Education Language Arts. I started at Purdue University, and due to a move, graduated from Indiana University in 1995. I recently completed my Masters degree, and hope to make learning a life time commitment. I have been with my husband for 30 years. I have a twenty-three-year-old son, fraternal twin nineteen-year-old boys, an eighteen-year-old daughter, and a fourteen-year-old daughter. My oldest recently walked all 2,189 miles of the Apalachian Trail from Maine to Georgia. My twins will start their sophomore year at Franklin College in the fall. They are taking academic honors courses, and both on the football team. My oldest daughter will begin her nursing degree in the fall at Indiana University. My youngest daughter is a freshman, cheers, plays volleyball, plays tennis, and works hard in school. I instill in them the importance of education every day. I am a teacher because I believe in public education, my school, and my students. I want to make a difference in my students' lives, and I want them to see how important an education is to their future.
